PS3 disc drive not reading or not accepting discs A PS3 that won't read discs, or reads DVDs but not Blu-rays (or the other way round), usually has a worn laser. A drive that won't take discs in usually has a jammed mechanism or a sensor/control-board fault. Lasers and mechanisms can be replaced, but the drive's control board is paired to the motherboard, so always keep the original board. by CircuitScope research team · 09 Oct 2026 · 2 PS3 yellow light of death (YLOD): diagnose properly, don't reflow On YLOD the PS3's light goes green, yellow, then flashes red, and the console shuts down during hardware start-up. The common causes are the RSX graphics chip's internal solder bumps, the NEC/TOKIN filter capacitors that feed the CPU and GPU, and sometimes the PSU. Read the syscon error log to find out which, then fix the actual fault. Oven or heat-gun 'reflows' only buy time. by CircuitScope research team · 09 Oct 2026 · 1
