About this component
The original Game Boy board carries two 8 KB SRAMs: one on the video bus for tiles and maps, one on the CPU bus as work RAM. A failing VRAM shows as corrupted graphics, while a failing work RAM usually freezes the game or stops it booting past the logo. Later Game Boy Pocket and Light models moved video RAM inside the SoC, so they have only one RAM chip. Part variants: Two identical chips: U2 is video RAM, U3 is work RAM. Most units use Sharp LH5164LN-10; at least one later unit uses Sharp LH5264N4 for both.
What it does on this board
8KB work RAM and 8KB video RAM.
