About this component
The Game Gear VDP is a development of the Master System chip with a 12-bit palette (4,096 colours, 32 on screen) and 16 KB of VRAM (Hitachi HM65256BLFP-12). It also contains the SN76489-style PSG, with stereo output available on the headphone socket. On VA0 it is a standalone ASIC; on later boards it is inside the 315-5535 single-chip LSI, which also has the region-select pin (pin 142). Part variants: 315-5377 is the VDP on the twin-ASIC VA0 board (paired with the 315-5378 SCA). VA1 and later merge CPU, VDP and SCA into a single custom LSI, Sega 315-5535.
