CXD8530BQ
About this component
This is the PlayStation's main processor. Besides the 32-bit MIPS core it contains the Geometry Transformation Engine, which does the 3D maths, and the MDEC block that decompresses FMV and still images into video RAM. It is a custom part with no public datasheet, so it cannot be bought new; replacements come from donor boards with a matching revision. The die photo from Zeptobars shows an 800 nm, three-metal-layer process. Part variants: Several suffixes exist: CXD8530AQ, CXD8530BQ and CXD8530CQ are all documented on early/mid boards. Exact mapping of suffix to PU board was not confirmed; later slim/late boards may use a different part number.
33.8MHz 32-bit MIPS R3000A with integrated Geometry Transformation Engine.
