About this component
The HuC6280 is the PC Engine's CPU and sound chip in one: an enhanced 65C02 core switchable between 1.79 and 7.16 MHz, an MMU that maps 2 MB of physical space in 8 KB pages, a timer, an 8-bit I/O port for the joypad, and a PSG with six 5-bit wavetable channels. Because sound is integrated, no-audio faults can be the CPU itself or the output stage. It is a custom part with no public datasheet. Part variants: A revised HuC6280A (minor audio fixes) is used in later systems such as the CoreGrafx and SuperGrafx.
