About this component

The RCP is the hub of the N64. Its Reality Signal Processor (a MIPS-based core with a vector unit) runs microcode for geometry and audio, and the Reality Display Processor rasterises and textures triangles. It also contains the memory controller for RDRAM and the video, audio, cartridge and serial interfaces, so the CPU reaches memory through it. Faults here usually show as no video or a hard freeze; replacement means sourcing a donor board.

What it does on this board

62.5MHz RSP+RDP handling 3D graphics and sound.
