SNK LSPC2-A2
About this component
The LSPC reads sprite attributes from VRAM and works out which cartridge C-ROM (sprite) and S-ROM (fix layer) data to fetch for each scanline, passing pixels to the NEO-B1 for line buffering and palette lookup. It also generates sync, the 68000's video interrupts and arbitrates CPU access to VRAM. The system handles up to 381 sprites per frame and 96 per line, with shrinking but no enlarging. Sprite or text-layer corruption that follows the console across cartridges points at this chipset or VRAM. Part variants: Later AES boards (e.g. NEO-AES3-4) use the second-generation LSPC2-A2 (QFP176), which drives a separate NEO-B1. Earlier first-generation boards use the LSPC-A0 (QFP160) chipset.
Custom SNK chips handling the large sprite counts.
