About this component

The Z1 Extreme is AMD's handheld-focused APU, with eight Zen 4 cores (3.3 GHz base, up to 5.1 GHz), 8 MB L2 and 16 MB L3 cache, and a 12 CU RDNA 3 GPU at up to 2.7–2.9 GHz (ASUS quotes up to 8.6 TFLOPS). ASUS runs it between 9 and 30 W. Its core rails are driven by an MPS MP2845A controller and MP86949 power stages, worth checking on a dead board. Heat from the cooling area near the microSD reader has been linked to the Ally's widely reported card-reader failures. Part variants: The lower ROG Ally model uses the 6-core Ryzen Z1 instead of the Z1 Extreme.

What it does on this board
