About this component

The TIA builds each scanline on the fly from a playfield register, two player sprites, two missiles and a ball, with hardware collision detection; there is no frame buffer. It also produces two channels of simple sound, reads paddle and joystick-trigger inputs, and supplies the CPU clock. Swapping in a TIA from another region gives wrong colours or a rolling picture. Boards from revision 16 added a timer chip (A205) to fix power-on reset failures that can be mistaken for TIA faults. Part variants: CO10444 in NTSC consoles; CO11903 in PAL consoles. SECAM units use an adapter daughterboard. The TIA is the only chip that differs between regions.
