About this component

The Series X stores games on a custom Western Digital SN530 NVMe module in the M.2 2230 form factor, running over a PCIe 4.0 x2 link at about 2.4 GB/s raw. The SoC's decompression hardware can roughly double the effective throughput. The module sits in a socket, so it can be swapped, but the console expects a correctly prepared drive and will not just accept any blank 2230 SSD. Only about 802 GB of the 1 TB is free for the user. Part variants: Launch units: custom WD SN530 M.2 2230 module with SanDisk 60662 1T00 NAND and a SanDisk 20-82-10048-A1 controller (iFixit). The 2 TB Galaxy Black model's drive was not checked.

What it does on this board

1TB custom NVMe SSD (~2.4 GB/s).
