About this component
The 2C02 builds the 256x240 picture from tile data on the cartridge and two nametables held in a 2 KB SRAM on the mainboard, and outputs composite video directly. It holds 256 bytes of sprite memory (OAM) and the palette internally. Revisions differ in small behaviours (for example OAM and palette readability), which matters to some test ROMs and RGB-mod kits. PAL machines use the RP2C07, which has a different line count and is not interchangeable. Part variants: RP2C02E-0 on earlier units (seen 1985-87); RP2C02G-0 from 1987 to 1993; RP2C02H-0 on late units. PAL consoles use the RP2C07.
