About this component

Broadway is the Wii's main CPU and is essentially a PowerPC 750CL running 1.5 times faster than Gekko, which is how the Wii runs GameCube games natively. It launched on 90 nm SOI and moved to 65 nm in 2007. The I/O processor (Starlet inside Hollywood) can hold it in reset and load its code, so a console stuck at a black screen is not necessarily a CPU fault. It is a BGA package; the different substrate sizes across revisions matter if swapping chips between boards. Part variants: Broadway A (90 nm) on RVL-CPU-01; Broadway B (65 nm) on RVL-CPU-20; Broadway-1 with a smaller substrate on RVL-CPU-30 and later.

What it does on this board

PowerPC CPU @729MHz (an overclocked Gekko successor).
