About this component

The SH-4 runs game code and does most geometry work, using its FPU's 4-way vector operations for transform and lighting. It is a two-way superscalar design with 8 KB instruction and 16 KB data cache, reaching 16 MB of main SDRAM over a 64-bit, 100 MHz bus. It sits under the main heatsink and is a BGA part, so reballing or replacement needs proper rework equipment. Overheating from a failed or clogged fan is the usual threat.

What it does on this board

200MHz SH-4 RISC CPU with a 128-bit vector FPU.
