About this component
VDP2 generates the scrolling and rotating background planes and mixes them with VDP1's frame buffer to produce the output picture. It holds 4 KB of colour RAM and has its own VRAM. If the console boots but backgrounds are corrupt or the picture has no sync, VDP2 or its VRAM is a likely culprit. Part variants: 315-5890 on earlier small-board revisions; 315-5964 on the single-board VA7 and later. Earliest units reportedly use 315-5690.
