About this component
The 68EC000 runs the sound driver from 512 KB of sound RAM (Hitachi HM514270 DRAM) and programs the SCSP, which has 32 voices usable as PCM or FM plus a DSP for effects. The SCSP output goes to an external stereo DAC (Burr-Brown PCM1710U or Philips TDA1386T). No sound with a working picture can come from either chip, the sound RAM or the DAC stage. These are two separate chips on the board, not one. Part variants: Same two chips on all revisions listed in MAME's notes (small boards and VA7).
