CXD2964GB
About this component
The Cell runs the game and OS code on its PPE and spreads heavy maths across the SPEs. It talks to 256 MB of XDR memory and links to the RSX and the south bridge over FlexIO. On CECH-25xx and later boards the heat spreader may be glued to the die, so lifting it to re-paste can destroy the chip. Early 90 nm boards run hot, contributing to the well-known YLOD failures. Part variants: 90 nm CXD2964GB/AGB (COK-001/002, CECHA/B/C/E); 65 nm CXD2981, CXD2989, CXD2990 series (SEM/DIA/VER boards, CECHG to CECHP); 45 nm CXD2992 (CECH-20xx/21xx/25xx), CXD2996 (CECH-30xx, 40xx) and CXD2999AGG (CECH-42xx/43xx).
3.2GHz PowerPC-based PPE plus 7 usable SPE cores.
