About this component
The RSX draws the 3D image and outputs video, using its own 256 MB of graphics memory and also able to read XDR through the Cell. Early 90 nm RSX packages are the classic YLOD failure point: the solder joints under the die or package crack after repeated heat cycles. Super Slim boards move to a 28 nm part with two GDDR5 chips instead of four GDDR3 chips. Part variants: 90 nm CXD2971 series (COK-001/002, SEM-001, DIA-001); 65 nm CXD2982/CXD2991 series (DIA-002, VER-001, DYN-001); 40 nm CXD5300/CXD5301/CXD5302 (SUR, JTP, JSD, KTE, MSX, MPX boards); 28 nm D5305 with GDDR5 (Super Slim NPX/PQX/PPX/RTX/REX).
550MHz G70-derived GPU.
