About this component

Xenos is the Xbox 360's custom ATI graphics chip: a 500 MHz GPU die sharing a package with a 10 MB eDRAM daughter die from NEC, used as a fast framebuffer. The northbridge and the 128-bit GDDR3 memory controller are on the GPU die, so it links the CPU, RAM and southbridge. On early fat boards this package ran hot, and it is the chip most often reworked or reballed on boards that red-ring. From Trinity onward it no longer exists as a separate part because it was merged with the CPU into the XCGPU. Part variants: Separate GPU + eDRAM package on Xenon to Tonasket boards (GPU 90 nm, 65 nm from Jasper). Merged into the XCGPU from Trinity onward, with eDRAM on a separate die until Winchester put it on-die.

What it does on this board

500MHz unified-shader GPU with 10MB embedded eDRAM daughter die.
