About this component

The Emotion Engine runs game code and does geometry work through its two vector units before handing primitives to the Graphics Synthesizer. It went through many die shrinks, and on slim boards it is merged with the GS into one chip, so a 'CPU' swap on a slim means replacing the combined EE+GS. Overheating of the early large-die parts is a known cause of disc-read and freeze faults being misdiagnosed. No public datasheet exists. Part variants: CXD9542GB on GH-001/GH-003 (launch SCPH-10000/15000); CXD9615GB on GH-004 to GH-016; CXD9708GB on GH-015 to about GH-032 (SCPH-3000x/5000x era); slim boards GH-035 to GH-052 merge EE and GS as CXD9833GB / CXD2953AGB (CXD9797GB on a few); late slims GH-061 to GH-072 split again with EE CXD2976GB.

What it does on this board

128-bit MIPS-based CPU with dual vector units, ~294–299MHz.
