About this component
The MAX17050 measures battery voltage, current through a sense resistor and temperature, and reports state of charge to the SoC over I2C. If it fails or loses its learned battery data, the console may show a wrong charge percentage, refuse to boot on a good battery, or report no battery. It is a tiny 9-bump wafer-level part next to the battery connector, so it is easily damaged by careless prying or liquid.
